Mojo and I have been dungeon diving out past Rottenwood and have built a fort to store our loot. One night, Mojo looks out the window and sees... A SPIDER JOCKEY!
For those of you unaware of what these are, here's the minecraft wiki description:
Sp these things are rare as all hell, and Nathan sees one! Luckily, I was able to get some screen shots. It was the first time I'd ever seen one.
You might be able to see it off in the distance. This was taken from the top of the fort.
Here's another shot from the top of the fort. These aren't too clear, and it might be mistaken for a spider really close to a skeleton. It was also glitching in the same way the rendering does when someone rides a boat; you can see the person seated, and the boat drags behind them, but it was with a spider instead of a boat.
And in case there was any doubt, we ran out there before the sun came out, and I was able to get this action shot close up.
So that was our encounter with a spider jockey! But later, Nathan sees ANOTHER one! I wasn't around to see it that time, but that's some crazy luck seeing two of them (especially after a day of finding 9 dungeons).

Tommie and I were sniping mobs off the top of off the fort, and ANOTHER SPIDER JOCKEY APPEARED!! I think it must be that part of the world or something! Here's a screen shot. That's Tommie on the roof of the fort.

Despite the skeleton and spider being treated as separate entities in the game (if the spider is killed, the skeleton will continue to attack and move and vice versa), a spider jockey possesses the ranged arrow attack of a skeleton plus the vision, agility, and wall-climbing ability of a spider with the sum of their aggression and respective health capacities. A spider has only a 1% chance to spawn with a skeleton rider, but the rare spider jockey is one of the most dangerous enemies the player can encounter.
